This comprehensive rollout guide has everything you need to get started with EnergyFlex, including how the app works, the benefits it delivers, and how to communicate its value to your internal and external stakeholders.
We’ve developed this guide to support a shared understanding of how EnergyFlex helps optimise the value of your energy assets through simple, everyday behaviour changes.
You’ll find key messaging and practical resources throughout — including what it means to be ‘Renewables Ready’. Feel free to tailor these to align with your business or organisation’s communications strategy and goals.
We all have a role to play in fighting climate change. EnergyFlex makes it easy for everyone to get involved—without changing lifestyles or sacrificing the comfort of being connected to the grid.
We look forward to supporting you on this journey as we work together to help Australia reach net zero emissions by 2050.

ABOUT ENERGYFLEX
Our message resonates with every Australian.
EnergyFlex is an Australian-made, veteran-owned company that’s changing the way Australians think about and use energy. Our mission is to accelerate the country’s shift to a renewables-powered grid by making energy simple, smart, and rewarding.
We exist to help people confidently navigate the complexity of electricity use and pricing—while addressing two urgent challenges: the rising cost of living and the growing climate crisis.
Our vision is built on 100% participation. We believe every household—owned or rented, urban or regional—should be able to benefit from the energy transition, regardless of income, technical knowledge, or existing infrastructure.
By empowering everyday homeowners, renters, businesses, and communities to embrace energy flexibility, we’re helping Australians unlock the benefits of a cleaner, smarter energy future.
What it means
As we move to a renewable energy grid, electricity will be cheap during the day and expensive at night. The price of electricity from the grid crashes when everyone’s solar panels are generating, and skyrockets when the sun sets and we rely on fossil fuelled-generation or batteries to fill the gap.
What it means
Being Renewables Ready means you are ready for the energy transition in Australia. You use most of your electricity at the cheapest time of the day – when the sun shines and the wind blows – and you use very little energy in the evenings.
What it means
By using EnergyFlex, you have the power to make small behavioural changes to shift your energy usage into the day and reduce your reliance on expensive overnight fossil fuel energy. EnergyFlex can help you become Renewables Ready.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The app: simple, smart, personal
The EnergyFlex app connects securely to your smart meter data via the Consumer Data Right (CDR), with your consent. It then provides a personalised, daily EnergyFlex Rating — a simple score that reflects how effectively you’re using clean, affordable energy.
This rating isn’t just a number — it’s a tool for reducing bills, cutting emissions, and making smarter choices. With practical, real-time insights, the app shows when and how to shift your energy use to cheaper, greener periods. It also compares electricity plans based on your actual usage, helping you avoid overpaying or being penalised for loyalty.
Key benefits:
- No hardware required
- Actionable guidance with minimal effort
- Insights tailored to your real energy use
A rating of 5 indicates excellent alignment with renewable generation, resulting in lower costs and emissions. A rating of 0 reflects high reliance on fossil fuels—typically during expensive peak evening hours.
Importantly, owning solar doesn’t guarantee a high score. The platform rewards households that use solar as it’s generated, not just those who export it and rely on fossil-powered energy at night.

Starting with no-cost behavioural changes (like running appliances during daylight hours), users see real results fast. As confidence builds, they can explore upgrades, from switching retailers to installing smart tech, solar, or batteries.
Users will sign up for free, but will require a Smart Meter to unlock the full value of EnergyFlex
Dont worry though – EnergyFlex can help users get smart meters at their house. Find out more info below.
What is a smart meter?
Smart meters are digital devices that measure your energy consumption in real-time and send this information to your energy retailer automatically.
Do I need a smart meter to use EnergyFlex?
Yes. Without a smart meter, we can’t measure how you use electricity or calculate your personalised EnergyFlex Rating.
How can I get a smart meter?
EnergyFlex can assist with getting you a smart meter during your onboarding onto the app.
Through our vendor partnerships, we log a job with your retailer, who will be in contact with you within 14 days to organise installation – all for free.
5 smart meter myths, busted
Smart meters get a bad rap for being unsafe and unsecure, neither of which is true.
They are key enablers in the transition to net zero because they support the future technologies, services, and innovations of a modern and renewable energy system.
So, we thought we’d bust some myths around smart meters, and give you a few good reasons to get one.
